Screenplays pick up formatting drift from every tool they pass through — a scene heading missing its space ("INT.KITCHEN-NIGHT"), a lowercase (v.o.), a stray double space. This tool parses your Fountain or FDX file, applies deterministic fixes for the mechanical stuff, and flags the handful of things — a likely-typo'd character name, an empty scene — that need your judgment instead of a guess.

FAQ

Script format checker, answered

How do I check and fix my screenplay's formatting online for free?
Upload your .fountain or .fdx file (or paste the text), click Check & Fix, and get back a corrected file in the same format — plus a plain list of what was fixed and what still needs a look. No signup, nothing uploaded.
What formatting issues does it fix automatically?
Scene-heading spacing and punctuation ("INT.KITCHEN-NIGHT" → "INT. KITCHEN - NIGHT"), character extensions like (v.o.) → (V.O.) and (cont'd) → (CONT'D), parenthetical wrapping, extra spaces, and empty lines — all mechanical, rule-based corrections, never AI guesses.
What does it flag instead of fixing automatically?
Things that need a human judgment call: possible character-name typos ("JON" vs "JOHN"), scenes with no content, two character cues in a row with no dialogue between them, and unusually long action paragraphs. These are reported, never silently changed.
Does it upload or store my script?
No. Checking and fixing happens entirely in your browser — your script never leaves your device or touches SceneCraft's servers.
Does the output stay in the same format I uploaded?
Yes — a Fountain file comes back as corrected Fountain, an FDX file comes back as corrected FDX. If you need to change format entirely, use the free Fountain ↔ FDX Converter instead.
Is this powered by AI?
No — every fix is a fixed, explainable rule (the same parsing SceneCraft's screenplay importer uses), not an AI guess. That's what makes it safe to trust without double-checking every line.
